WITH THE BAND
Lumi, the electro-pop and glam Lebanese punk band, formed in 2005 by Marc Codsi and Mayaline Hage, quickly stood out in Beirut.Their album “Two tears in Water “was published in June 2008. Many tours followed, in Lebanon, Paris, London and Berlin. Now back in the studio, they give us their favorites of the moment.
Our films: We both have a predilection for movies by Bergman, Tarkovsky, Cocteau, directors of New Wave, Godard, Truffaut, the wisp of Louis Malle, the first films of Alain Resnais. Plus the movies of David Lynch (Lost Highway, Twin Peaks, Blue Velvet); Haneke (Pianist), Gus Van Sant (Elephant), and more recently, Xavier Dolan.
Our books: Mayaline: Through my reading, I look for a journey. Cocteau, Prévert, more Recently Christian Bobin and Dostoevsky, Duras. Lately, Murakami offered me a beautiful flight fantastic, and I started head to read the classics. We’ll see what comes of it. Marc: The Stranger by Camus, Twenty four hours of life a woman Stephane Zweig and Philosophy in the Boudoir de Sade.
Our music: We live in music! She accompanies us continually. We sometimes us wake up already melodies head, often those of on which pieces of Lumi we work. Our large musical influences range from Beatles to Nirvana, Sonic Youth, Philip Glass, Michael Nyman, Interpol, Clinic, Lydia Lunch. We are always on the lookout beautiful discoveries. Our latest favorites: Suuns, Dirty Beaches, SOKO, KVB, the latest album from Clinic ….
Eating: Mayaline: I had my best culinary experiences in southern France, Paris or Rome. Marc: Beirut is mainly good sushi (Kampai, Sushi Bar), good Armenian restaurants or simply good restaurants, traditional (Tawlet) of mezze and fish in the mountains or beside the sea.
