WHAT’S THE SITUATION?
Dan Flavin was known for his bright art installations, or “situations,” which became icons of the Minimalist movement.
Flavin was born in New York in 1933 and died in 1996. He had installations up at sites around the US and Europe, including one in Berlin’s Hamburger Banhof and at Grand Central Station in New York. In a 1982 interview with Tiffany Bell he said he intended for his work to be simple – but not simpleminded.
Flavin’s work is on view as part of the New Skin exhibition at the Aïshti Foundation, Jal el Dib.
