THE TRICK BRAIN
Art lovers, this one’s for you: the Aïshti Foundation is pleased to announce a new exhibition, finally on view starting today!
Yesterday, on the occasion of the opening of the new exhibition The Trick Brain under the patronage of His Excellency the Minister of Culture Dr. Ghattas Khoury, elite artists, gallery owners, museum directors, curators and media from around the world gathered at the space to discover, discuss and celebrate the new additions. The night began at B by Eléftériades on Aïshti by the Sea’s rooftop for pre-drinks while awaiting the opening of The Trick Brain at the Aïshti Foundation. The four exhibition space floors were then visited by the attendees who closed the night with a traditional Lebanese dinner at Aïshti by the Sea’s terrace.
The Rana Salam Studio created an installation for the occasion at Aïshti by the Sea’s entrance, curating a dreamy effect and display going into the past and the future, reminding the viewers and Middle Eastern women how strong, stylish and special they were and still are.
The Trick Brain assembles about 240 works by over 60 artists from the Tony and Elham Salamé Collection. Taking its title from a video installation by Ed Atkins featured in the collection, the exhibition proceeds by establishing unexpected connections between works informed by a neo-surrealist sensibility.
Curated by Massimiliani Gioni, The Trick Brain highlights similarities and contrasts among a group of multigenerational artists whose work reflects a fascination with the cacophonous, collaged experience of life in the digital age.
The exhibition includes important works by established figures such as John Armleder, Isa Genzken, Maria Lassnig, Matt Mullican, Cindy Sherman and Wolfgang Tillmans, presented in dialogue with contributions by younger artists such as Adrián Villar Rojas, Danh Vo, Haegue Yang and Anicka Yi.
Over-excited sensibility, combining hyper-awareness and paranoia, continuous distraction and heightened attention – this all creates a collective “trick brain.”
The Trick Brain will be on view starting Monday, October 23, and will then be open from Tuesday to Saturday from 11 am to 7 pm.
