THE TALE OF THOMAS BURBERRY
Director Asif Kapadia leads a cast of British actors in a short film telling the story of Burberry founder Thomas Burberry.
Today, Burberry’s CEO and creative director Christopher Bailey debuted The Tale of Thomas Burberry, a holiday film directed by Asif Kapadia and starring Domhnall Gleeson (who plays Burberry), Sienna Miller, Lily James, and Dominic West. In celebration of the brand’s 160th anniversary, the film revisits major events in Burberry’s life, from inventing the weatherproof gabardine (found on the timeless Burberry trench) to designing outfits for the British military. And since there is always room for a little romance, the film plots fictional scenes starring Sienna Miller, who plays Burberry’s first love.
The film, shot at Shirburn Castle in Oxfordshire, England, features a cast wearing a mix of new Burberry collections such as the Heritage trench coat and the Bridle bag. It also stars the blue flying suit, a replica design from the Burberry Heritage archives worn by Lily James, who plays Betty Dawson.
“The film we have made is a brief glimpse inspired by his full and extraordinary life, which threaded its way through the history of the twentieth century in all its tumultuous highs and lows,” Bailey says. “His spirit and his vision are still at the heart of everything we do at Burberry today.”
The holiday campaign runs through the end of December 2016.
