L’OFFICIEL INTERVIEWS DIRECTOR MOUNIA AKL
Selected by the Cinéfondation to compete in the 69th annual Cannes Film Festival, Submarine is a short film directed by Mounia Akl. The main character Hala, a wild child inside of a woman, is played by Yumna Marwan. Hala is the only one to refuse evacuation, clinging to whatever remains of home. The film is set under the imminent threat of Lebanon’s garbage crisis and depicts feelings of denial, stagnation, hope and a deadlock situation.
