SILLY SPOON SISTERS
We sit down with the sisters Majdalini, founders of Beirut’s most whimsical tableware shop.
When looking for a name for their new housewares company, sisters Lea Majdalin-Ayoub and Jessica Majdalini wanted something that was “a bit playful, a little frivolous, a little bohemian.” And so they landed on the Silly Spoon. It’s a nod to the proverbial Silver Spoon of the elite, but here turning the notion of rigid class codes upside down.
Complicity, laughter, discipline, love of life and of others are the magic ingredients of the Silly Spoon, reflecting the optimistic character the two young women. “We want to surprise our customers, we want to provoke an emotional purchase, and not a rational one. We sell products that tell a story rather they respond to practical needs.”
Here, the sisters answer some of our most pressing questions.
