NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH: SOPI, PARIS
SoPi (South of Pigalle) has established itself as the hippest neighborhood in Paris. The quartier is a magnet for creative types looking for trendy purchases and alternative fun when the sun goes down. For shopping, fashion bloggers’ favorite Cancan stocks creations from talented up-and-coming designers, or, if you like your designer labels with a side of mid-century furniture, Spree is the place to be. Get a hit of contemporary art at Le BAL gallery, located in a former dance hall and brothel. As the evening draws in, enjoy a cocktail in the grandest of settings at the über-trendy Le Carmen, a former Opera House turned bar-cum-club. Georges Bizet wrote Carmen at this very spot. For a good night’s sleep, head around the corner to the Philippe Starck-designed, whimsical hotel Mama Shelter (top and below).
