MARINA DOWN UNDER
The world’s most famous performance artist Marina Abramovic has two new exhibitions in Australia this month, one in Tasmania and another in Sydney. The artist wore all-black Dries Van Noten to the opening of her new exhibition at the Museum of Old and New Art in Tasmania, Australia, reports The Guardian.
Abramovic has called fashion the “popularization of art,” and has collaborated in the past with designers like Riccardo Tisci in her work (including a photo called ‘The Contract’ in which Tisci is pictured with his lips on Abramovic’s breast).
During a Q&A at the MONA opening, Abramovic said that she contains “three Marinas” — the first heroic, the second emotional, and the third who really likes bullshit, fashion, eating chocolate and doing absolutely nothing.
Museum visitors can catch a glimpse of all three Marinas, and perhaps confront their own inner complexities, at the MONA exhibition in Tasmania until October 5. Another exhibition in Sydney will open from June 24 through July 5 at Pier 2/3.
