KENZO GOES GREEN
Kenzo designers Humberto Leon and Carol Lim opted for a greener solution this season.
Kenzo is encouraging its staff to get involved in local causes and has partnered up with youth activist group Earth Guardians on a line of sweaters and T-shirts. They used their backstage area as the backdrop for their fall collection. The money that would have been used on the set will go to Ideas for Us instead, an organization that promotes grassroots environmental solutions.
Let’s talk design: the clothes were inspired by Arctic surfing. “It brought a bigger question to us, which is: Is that where we’re moving in this world, where you’re going to be doing summery activities in winter places?” he said after the show. “We try to use our platform to really talk about ideas.”
On the menu: a beautiful colour palette ranging from polar white to Northern-Light-inspired electric hues.
It’s really important for fashion houses to show their involvement with the issue of global warmin. With the rise of leaders that refuse to acknowledge them, and others who do but don’t take action, the world needs influential brands such as Kenzo, Stella McCartney, Vivienne Westwood and more to raise awareness.
