THE POWER OF FASHION
It began with the pearl necklace and the sari, and it’s now morphed into the Breton shirt and the little black dress.
Fashion has come a long way, and New York’s Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) is celebrating just that with its exhibit “Items: Is Fashion Modern?” Through 111 items of clothing and accessories, the exhibit explores the past, present and future of fashion, with pieces that have had a tremendous impact in the 20th and 21st centuries, and continue to do so today (think Brooks Brothers button-down shirts, Calvin Klein briefs and Levi’s 501s). This is MoMA’s second-ever exhibit focused on clothing after its 1944 “Are Clothes Modern?” Clearly a rare opportunity, so get yourself to NYC.
