ELIZABETH “LIZZIE” OLSEN
The younger sister of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen talks film and fashion in an exclusive interview.
Looking gorgeous in ensembles by Dior and Yves Saint Laurent, Olsen says “I admire people able to create clothing. I would have also loved having the same eye and taste the same as my sisters.”
Olsen tells L’Officiel she didn’t so much plan on being an actor, it just happened that way. “I was doing theater in school, without necessarily think about the fact that this could become my profession. Until my teacher then encouraged me to audition for parts.” Olsen left her native California to go study at the prestigious Tisch School of the Arts in New York, before joining the Moscow Art Theatre.
Constantly in competition with herself, she finally settled on comedic acting. It was the best choice of her life. “Working with a team on a creative project is an indescribable experience …. A shoot, it’s like an ephemeral family.” When she’s not on the set, Olsen leads a relatively normal life: coffee with her best friend, mornings spent reading The New York Times, yoga and trips to the grocery store.
As for film inspirations, she describes Woody Allen’s Annie Hall as having an impact. “This film was very important for me, teenager, not only because I discovered Woody Allen, but also because I became a young woman and I identified myself much to Diane Keaton, optimistic, neurotic and a little too talkative. ”
