DIOR CELEBRATES LAUNCH OF CRUISE ‘17 COLLECTION
Dior Cruise ‘17 – a collection worthy of royalty – has finally landed in Beirut.
Last night, the Dior Downtown boutique was lucky to be one of the first in the region to debut the brand’s latest Cruise ‘17 collection.
The new collection combined many influences ranging from the English countryside to African prints, as well as drawing inspiration from eccentric English post-war fashion, all of which were introduced to the Parisian fashion house’s signature designs.
The collection was full of bright, natural colours, including poppy reds, sunny yellows, soft creams, and sky blues. To compliment the post-war theme, pieces were amplifued with extravagant puffy sleeves, cropped flare leather trousers, layered slip dresses, classic suiting ensembles and floral tea-dresses. The details are classic and modern yet deeply feminine, and very much wearable.
While guests and clients took in the collection, London-based Fashion illustrator Michalis Christodoulou was available to hand sketch and illustrate live portraits of visitors carrying their favorite Dior bag from the collection. Christodoulou mainly uses a mix of inks and watercolours; he has a light drawing touch, where the watercolour is brushed on loosely to create a soft effect.
Guests also enjoyed savoury bites, delicious meringue tarts and salted caramel macaroons; of course, champagne was served.
70 years on, the French fashion house paid tribute to the ever-growing creativity and cultural exchange between France and England, which is why the 2017 Cruise Collection runway show was staged in the middle of the English countryside, at the Blenheim Palace.
As for now, the collection leaves us curious about the world and in the mood to explore the new.
