IN DEPTH: CONSUELO CASTIGLIONI
Known for its geometric designs, Marni has positioned itself as a luxury brand for visionary fashion types since its inception during Milan Fashion Week in 1994.
Created by Consuelo Castiglioni, a fashion designer with Chilean roots raised in the Italian Swiss town of Lugano, and her husband Gianni, the company’s CEO, Marni was founded on a whim and has grown organically, without advertising or takeovers. A different aesthetic to the seductive garments paraded around by other Italian designers like Valentino and Dolce & Gabbana, Vogue once described it as “superbly individualistic.” Embraced by Hollywood’s fashion pack, Angelina Jolie collected her best supporting actress gong for Girl, Interrupted wearing a white leather Marni coat in 2000, French style icon Lou Doillon rocked Marni at the Met Ball in 2008 and celebrities are snapped daily in one of its boldly colored designs.
With such devoted followers that the term “Marnies” has been coined, Castiglioni’s cheeky brand of charmingly bohemian style has achieved yearly sales of over $100 million. But that’s not all. It’s a brand that encourages women to play with personal style, enjoying clothes purely for pleasure. At A, That’s the kind of la dolce vita we can get on board with.
