IN DEPTH: CHARLOTTE OLYMPIA
Known for her “Dolly” platforms, kitty-cat flats and Perspex clutches, Charlotte Olympia’s whimsical creations have captured the hearts of “It” girls and celebrities since the launch of her eponymous brand in 2008.
Born to Guy Dellal and Brazilian model ‘Rio’ Andrea de Magalhães Vieira in Cape Town, this British-Brazilian designer has come a long way from home. After crossing the Atlantic with her three siblings (one of whom is model Alice Dellal – Karl Lagerfeld’s muse), Dellal enrolled herself at the London College of Fashion. Initially setting out to study Corset Design, Dellal realized that home is where your shoes are. After earning her degree in Footwear Design from the prestigious Cordwainers, she trained with Giambattista Valli before launching her first collection in London.
Inspired by the bygone era of old Hollywood glamour and London’s offbeat aesthetic, she was awarded Accessories Designer of the Year at the British Fashion Awards in 2011, and has collaborated with Agent Provocateur, Victoria Beckham and Olympia-Le Tan. The yin to Dita Von Teese’s yang, the 33-year old is a blonde bombshell with a penchant for all things pin-up.
One thing’s for sure though: if the shoe fits, buy it.
