DANCING WITH DREAMS
Designer-slash-artist Claire Barrow presents her exhibition, “Dancing with Dreams,” created in collaboration with Melissa Shoes in Covent Garden during London Fashion Week.
“It’s an extension of myself,” says Claire. “The colours are similar to what I usually use. The actors in it mirror what I’ve done in my presentations in the past: you know big mixtures of lots of different types of people.
Well they’re performing to the sculptures as if they are a real person. And then the performers are actually projections, so that mixes as well between the static sculpture being there in real life, but the moving alive thing is not there in real life.
I think it’s about loneliness and interaction: having a life online, and then on your phone as well. Even some relationships you have are just through your phone.”
In a nutshell, the concept of “Dancing With Dreams” is challenging the ideas society inflicts on people, like prejudice, romantic ideals, and stereotypes. Claire wants the audience to make their own assumptions based on what they see and feel. Each person would see the whole performance differently depending on their state of mind, view on things, and all the factors that make us human.
