DAGHER’S MANY FACES
Eminently dreamlike, often dark and depressing but with a subtly erotic spirit, desperate but guaranteed to make you smile, Ely Dagher’s short films reflect the spirit of a young Lebanese generation marked by instability.
With a degree in graphic design, illustration and comics, and another in 2D / 3D animation, having studied between Beirut and London, Ely Dagher chooses to live between his hometown and Brussels, since it is more convenient for his work. The work that essentially consists of creating movies, commercials and music videos, is done with multiple techniques such as animated collages, a true signature of his studio called BeaverAndBeaver (beaverandbeaver.com). It seems far away and yet so close, that day back in May 2015 when, during the Cannes festival, Ely Dagher, 29, dressed in tuxedo and bow tie, left his hotel room to get to the award. Did his short film, selected among 4550 proposals around the world, really have a chance to win?
Lebanon is still celebrating even six months after the magic moment.
