BERLIN’S NAKED BEAUTIES
To undress for Mario Testino is certainly one of the world’s greatest privileges.
Few artists have been able to infuse grace, innocence and beauty into nude photography quite like Testino. Now, Berlin’s Museum of Photography is shining the spotlight on Testino’s nude photography with a stunning site-specific installation titled “Undressed.” The installation features 50 gigantic Testino nudes that have been affixed directly to the museum walls, from floor to ceiling, in three separate galleries. There are images of both women and men, some in their 20s and others in their 30s, unclothed, tattooed and sometimes with barely there clothing. Intriguing and emotional, Testino’s images analyze the boundaries between fashion, erotica, anatomy and art, always remaining tasteful and never appearing to be obscene or pornographic.
