BASQUIAT AT THE BARBICAN
This one’s been a long time coming. “Basquiat: Boom for Real” is the United Kingdom’s first large-scale exhibition on the work of American artist Jean-Michel Basquiat.
Despite his short career – he died from an overdose at 27 – he is considered one of the great painters of the 20th century, having evolved as an artist in the late 1970s and early ‘80s in downtown New York and under the wing of Andy Warhol. Featuring raw imagery, bold text and vibrant colors, the exhibit brings together over 100 of Basquiat’s works focused on his relationship with music, writing, film, performance and television.
