An excerpt from the profile:
“[Tony] Salamé has always believed in Beirut. He and his wife Elham (also his head buyer) live and raise their four kids there. He continues to open new businesses in Lebanon, including a 28,000-sq m flagship now under construction, designed by Zaha Hadid. He stores his art collection in Beirut and has poured more than $100m into the Aishti Foundation’s new building….
“As for the turmoil taking place in the region today, Salamé refuses to let it affect him. ‘A lot of people left. The most difficult thing is to stay, but I think it’s also more gratifying. In Paris or New York, there are many museums and venues. Doing it in this part of the world gives more satisfaction.’ And while he admits it’s risky to put an art collection like his in a place that’s so unstable, he firmly believes, ‘If you don’t share it with the people you like, the people who should be a part of it, then what’s the point?'”
