A STRAND OF THYME IN OUR CLOSETS
Rebecca Zataar was born in Beirut, where she grew and sharpened her talents. Her passions are many and involve several art forms including photography, music and painting; fashion then became a means to bring all these interests together. And so she spontaneously joined ESMOD Beirut where Elie Saab, who hired her immediately upon graduation, had spotted her. Her training continued in the workshops of the great couturier, where she experienced first-hand the dazzling work of the most intricate artisans. Her vision matched Elie Saab’s in its femininity, grace and delicacy, but after seven years it was time for her to stand on her own. Adding a more fun and casual flair, Rebecca’s line Thyme deviates from the celebrity red carpet looks.
Dreaming out loud
There’s always something premonitory in a name. This strand of thyme, present in Rebecca’s family name, is in itself a walk in nature, an invitation to freedom and the memories of summer holidays. With these olfactory and visual memories, the young designer created her first collection “Dreaming out loud’’ in April 2016. This capsule collection is inspired by the call of nature, bringing together the colors of land and water — all that is essential in life. The first print of the collection is a deep blue sky studded with stars, tinged with the colors of the summer sunset.
The line’s color palette is composed of gray, deep yellow, saturated red, petroleum blue and shades of black. Varying textures from rigorous crepe to delicate organza, achieve a style that is both functional and elegant. Straight cuts contribute to the comfort of the garments and even the evening dresses, as embroidered as they may be, are light. Thyme is a line designed for a powerful yet playful woman, feminine and casual at once, and undoubtedly independent and contemporary.
